Gratulerer med dagen Norge (Happy Birthday, Norway)

Norway’s birthday is on May 17th. That was the day when the Norwegian Constitution was signed in Eidsvoll on 17 May 1814. It’s a day filled with parades, flying flags, celebrating the young people and speeches. I have been lucky enough to have been in Norway six times on this very special day. You’ll want to dress up as all Norwegians are well dressed in honor of this special day. In the USA, we celebrate Thanksgiving in November but the Norwegians celebrate being thankful of the old values of freedom, equality and brotherhood on this day. These values are strongly held in the Norwegian Constitution. I have attended this day in Kristiansund, Averoy and Oslo. If you’re in Oslo, you’ll want to try and be near the Kings Palace to watch Norway’s Royal Family wave to the parade participants. It’s really a beautiful event that is also broadcast live throughout the nation.
